Your salvation according to Your word;
42 So I will have an answer for him who reproaches me,
For I trust in Your word.
43 And do not take the word of truth utterly out of my mouth,
For I wait for Your ordinances.
44 So I will keep Your law continually,
Forever and ever.
45 And I will walk at liberty,
For I seek Your precepts.
46 I will also speak of Your testimonies before kings
And shall not be ashamed.
47 I shall delight in Your commandments,
Which I love.
48 And I shall lift up my hands to Your commandments,
Which I love;
And I will meditate on Your statutes.
Here David continues from He, recognizing that salvation flows from the loving kindness of God according to the promise of God. He also acknowledges that the ordinances of God are a guide rail to keep him in the place of blessing. It is obedience to these ordinances that lead to liberty. (v. 45) He loves God's commandments, speaks of the testimonies, meditates on the statutes, keeps God's law.
The commandments, i.e. the 10 commandments deal with obedience to and love of God.
The statutes further explain and expand the commandments.
Judgments are decisions made by God based on the principals behind the law.
The law-a faithful expression of God's character (the Torah-first 5 books of the Old Testament).
As I look at these definitions I have to ask the question "Why, if the law is a faithful expression of God's character, would you want to get rid of it and call it unimportant, abolished, expired, dead?" I've heard all of these expressions from law-haters. If God never changes then the law is still a faithful expression of God's character. The only way you could rightly throw it out, count it of no value, or ignore it altogether is if the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ changed God in some way, which it didn't. He was and is and will forever remain the same. "I am the Lord, I change not." (Malachi 3:6)
Therefore if God has changed, then He is not God and His Word is unreliable and not what it claims to be so it cannot be relevant to our generation because it is not really God's Word, or God Himself does not exist as God. Mind numbing, isn't it?
God's Word is true and sure and wonderful-EVERY SINGLE jot and tittle, which will never pass away. No, not one of God's Words will ever pass away. It is eternal! Therefore it can be trusted. You can throw the whole of your existence on it and it will support you. It is truth therefore it is power for victorious living.
